A fresh, bright and breezy Cape’s spring Saturday greeted the Western Province karting community as competitors gathered at the Killarney Kart Track for the seventh and penultimate round of the WP championship, which delivered racing of the highest order throughout an action packed program.
Joseph Oelz in his number 63 Zanardi Kart managed a steady 3rd spot in qualifying which saw him starting race 1 on the second row. Always up for the challenge Joseph raced superbly. Picking up 3 of the closest second place finished seen at Killarney circuit in a long time. Race 1 he finished a mere 29 thousandths of a second behind race winner Troy Dolinschek. Race 2 was no different. This time the gap between Dolinschek and Oelz was 45 thousandths of a second and in the final heat the gap was 92 thousandths of a second. Truly incredible racing and a very close second place for the day.
Oelz now takes the Championship lead into the final round of the Western Province Maxterino Championship on 29 October. A day where he will also return to competing in the new Mini Max Class.
