Oelz Unstoppable at 2nd National
The 2nd round of the South African National Karting Championship took place on Saturday 27 April. The temperatures soured in excess of 36 degrees Celsius and quite fittingly, Joseph Oelz set the timing sheets ablaze with 3 untouchable wins. A true masterclass in its own right.
It started on Friday Afternoon, when during a 3 lap shootout for pole position, Joey smoked his rivals to earn top spot for race one with a blistering 44,907. Almost 4 tenths clear of his closest rivals. He duly carried this form in Race 1. After dropping to second at the start, Joseph made light work of claiming the lead back at then checked out for a well deserved win by 3.5 seconds.
Race 2 was a far simpler affair. After taking the whole shot into turn 1, he drove with great maturity and skill. Consistent lap times amid the high temperatures saw him come home a comfortable 4 seconds clear of P2.
Race 3 was by far his best drive of the day. Leading again into turn 1, Joey put the hammer down to disappear into the distance as his closest rivals tried to stay in touch to no avail. A superb drive from Oelz to see him claim the overall victory for the day and certainly cement his place as the fastest man in a Rotax Mini Max this side of the equator.
